The Institute For Helping The Disabled

Empowering Persons with Disabilities Since 1995

Our Mission

Four guiding commitments that shape our work each day.

For three decades, our mission has guided every decision we make — from the children we admit to the partnerships we accept. These four commitments are not slogans on a wall; they are the daily compass of a small team doing demanding work.

Commitment 1

Diagnostic & Therapeutic Services

Provide mental-health diagnostic and therapeutic services across Odisha using modern technology, serving as a nodal centre for the region.

Commitment 2

Training & Education

Establish training facilities and educational programmes in mental health for institutions throughout Odisha.

Commitment 3

Research & Development

Create state-of-the-art neurological diagnostic facilities and lead national research and development efforts.

Commitment 4

Global Leadership

Pursue excellence in neuroscience and behavioural science with a long-term vision of global leadership.

Approach

Our Approach

We empower individuals with multiple disabilities by alleviating psychological distress, improving social integration, building confidence through skill development, and enabling comfortable community living.

Accountability

How We Measure Success

Mission without measurement is wishful thinking. Here is how we hold ourselves accountable.

  • Every enrolled child is reassessed every six months — therapy goals are quantified, not narrated.
  • A documented outcome report is shared with every parent at the end of each academic year.
  • Eleven of our students have transitioned to mainstream schools — that count is our north star.
  • Our books are audited annually and the audit summary is available on request.
Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions About Our Mission

Quick answers to common questions.

It refers to a child living with two or more disabilities at the same time — for example, cerebral palsy combined with intellectual disability and a hearing impairment. Each child needs a uniquely combined plan, which is why specialised settings exist.

We assess every child referred to us regardless of family background. Where capacity is limited, priority goes to children whose families have the fewest alternatives — single parents, daily-wage families, or remote rural locations.

Yes. Use the contact form or call the Institute directly. We will arrange an initial assessment within 7-10 days and walk the family through what care looks like before any commitment.

Education at ASWASANA is free for all enrolled students. Therapy fees are nominal and waived entirely for families who cannot afford them — no child is turned away for lack of payment.

They never told me what my daughter could not do. They showed me what she could, one small win at a time. That changes a parent.
